Nobody ever called me “shorty,” and there’s a very simple reason for that – I am pretty tall, of course! 😉 On the other hand, it seems it gets more and more useful to some people to send around URLs that can be called “shorty,” especially when sending long links via Twitter or other similar services. A few days, I even saw Stumble Upon’s Su.pr URL shortener and it really made me wonder if I’m not ignoring something that deserves some attention, so here it is…
… more than just another URL shortener, much more – a free URL shortener script that allows you to start your own such service! Built with PHP & MySQL, Shorty can be easily installed on your own server, and links you create using it will never go away, and you can also manage your links and see the statistics for each of them(try the demo).
In the live demo area, you can play with the admin interface and the preferences screen, but I must confess everything moved a bit slow in Safari 4 (the Windows version). Other than that, everything seems to be just fine, so why don’t you give Shorty a chance? 😉
Compatibility: any major browser, although it may work faster in some of them (anyway, this also depends on your server a lot)
