Brush Portfolio

Spending quite a lot on a Photoshop license is only the beginning, and if you don’t know what I mean, just ask around and find out how people are spending to purchase brushes, shapes, fonts, as well as various plugins they need. The answer should be obvious – a lot! Fortunately, there are also a lot of free resources available out there for Photoshop users, and that’s what I love about some of the newsletters I get – freebies!

This time, I was really in doubt about a simple fact – should I tell you about the entire website, or just the free brushes package I got emailed about? After taking a look at Brush Portfolio, I instantly decided it wouldn’t be fair to keep all these treasures hidden, so here you have it…

… and if you can get over the fact that Brush Portfolio is not located at www.somedomain.com, you will find a lot of brushes to help you get the job done, and we’re talking about high resolution here – most of them going near 2000 pixels and beyond!

The categories available include Abstract, Grunge, Hand Drawn, Light Effects, Nature, Symbols, Textures, and more – just about everything one needs to get started… and a lot of extra stuff, of course. After all, I am sure nobody is using so many brushes at the same time, and I hope you agree with that.

If you’re wondering about the licensing, this depends on the brushes sets. Some of them ask you to refer to their author’s websites when being used in your work, while others come covered by Creative Commons Share Alike 3.0 and others. Just be sure to check the license type before starting to use them, all right?

At last, you should also know that Brush Portfolio can keep you updated via Twitter, so if you’re one of the Twitter freaks out there, be sure to click on “Follow Me on Twitter” once you arrive at Brush Portfolio.

Compatibility: while the website seems to work great with all browsers (I didn’t manage to test it on a mobile phone, I must admit that), the brushes available there work with Photoshop 7 and beyond in most cases, although some seem to require at least CS3
