HTML 5 is not quite ready for the masses, but I must confess that I am impressed by the things I’ve heard it can do. Even more, I also saw some stuff, and Burst Engine is the vector animation engine responsible for that. Today, I’ll also show some things to you, since I am sure that those without Flash experience will enjoy its features a lot, especially since we’re talking about another open source product here…
Being created specifically for the HTML 5 Canvas Element, Burst Engine can work wonders, providing functionality similar to Flash, and also having a layer-based animation system available, a system like Adobe’s After Effects. The problem is that, at least for now, Internet Explorer 8 can’t handle any of the live demos available on the official product page…
… but at least you can enjoy the animation at the top of the page – move your mouse above the [-] sign and wait for it to start. Pretty cool, especially when you find out that the entire code sequence needed to create it is “Burst.start(“expand”);” and nothing more!
Burst Engine can easily handle SVG graphics, but the best part of it all seems to be the fact that burst shapes can be exported from Blender3D, so you can create a wide array of 2D and 3D objects to use in your Web projects… and all for free!
Compatibility: as I said, IE 8 is a “no go” for now, so you should play with Burst Engine in Firefox, Chrome, or Opera (I checked and everything works fine in these)
