OpenHeatMap

There are two things I hate about Summer: heat and mosquitoes. If I would be moving around a lot, having a heat map at my disposal would be great, but when we’re talking about such a thing like the one we have here today… heat as we know it is only a small part of the whole thing. How’s that? Well, OpenHeatMap is about much more than just high temperatures! 😉

This OpenHeatMap thingie is, according to the official FAQ, “a service designed to make it easy for non-specialists to create maps communicating information.” Its purpose is to transform data from a traditional data source such as a spreadsheet into an interactive animated view of a particular area that you can share online once the job is done.

OpenHeatMap comes as a Web-based free service, but even developers can enjoy it, since the jQuery plugin makes it easier to create maps, thanks to Flash or HTML5’s Canvas element. The feature-rich API allows you to control every aspect of the maps thanks to JavaScript, so addin popups, zooming or changing colors/sizes is as easy as it gets.
